INTRODUCING TORY

This will NOT be the last you see of her!

Class of 2018 Senior Representative Tory has a bright future of her!  Mark my words, you will see her name in lights on Broadway!  A student at Enfield High School and The Greater Hartford Academy of Arts, Tory is the master of multi tasking, all with a smile on her face.   She takes dance, teaches musical theater, started her own character performance company, designs and sews her own costumes, all while taking all the academic classes at Enfield High.  WOW!  Here is a little interview I had with her that I want to share.

Q.

I'm going to school for a BFA (bachelor of fine arts) in Musical Theatre. I'm still auditioning for schools as the application process for art colleges are different than most, so I won't know the school I'm attending until April. My top school is Boston Conservatory however many of my schools are based around New York City or Florida. UPDATE: Tory has already been accepted to several schools, she will be making a decision soon.

Q.

I have yet to finish auditioning for schools, but I hope to be accepted into Boston Conservatory because they have one of the best musical theatre programs and a really strong dance focus within that program. Dance is my favorite out of the three musical theatre disciplines so I'd love to attend a school with a strong program. BOCO reminds me a lot of my Arts school, it's a great environment, it's located in a gorgeous city and it's not too far from home.

Q.

At the art school I attend, we have a yearly show in the spring called "Musical Theatre Intermezzo" where performers are selected from each grade to perform songs, dances, and scenes. That year in class I was working on a song called "Ive Gotta Crow", which is from my favorite musical "Peter Pan". I was really proud of my progress and my work in that song. One day my teacher pulled me out of class to inform me that I had been chosen to sing it as a solo in intermezzo and I was so excited! Peter Pan has always been a major dream role of mine and I remember being so extremely happy being on the big stage with a full audience, standing in the spotlight and wearing a professional head microphone. It was a really amazing experience that I will never forget.

Q.

My musical theatre friends who have become my real family and everyone and everything at my art (Greater Hartford Academy of Arts) school. It really is like a second home to me and I can't imagine not going there anymore.

Q.

I was recently cast in "A Chorus Line" at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts as "Judy Turner" and I'm also the understudy for "Cassie". It's a really big deal to get into the main stage musicals at GHAA and to be a lead role in one of my favorite musicals my senior year is such an amazing opportunity and I'm so excited and grateful for the show and everyone in it. And of course, I can't wait for warm weather!!!!

Q.

I'm a performer first. This year I spent my afternoons in dance classes and rehearsals, and I wouldn't have it any other way. To give you a glimpse into my day, I would attend Enfield High school learning academics until noon, then I attend the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts until 4:00, where I learn and practice each of the three disciplines of musical theatre, acting, song, and dance. Then, depending on the day, I'll attend rehearsals for "A Chorus Line" or I'll go to dance class where I study Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Irish, and Pointe.

Q.

Over the four years I was in High school I started and developed my own company. I've always had a passion for creating, costume design, theatre, and fairytales, so I combined them all into one and made a company for character performance called "Royal Wishes". I design and see costumes resembling fairytale characters and my friends from GHAA and I go to birthday parties and charity events in costume and character. It's really great to have an impact on the community, even if it's small, where I can use what I love to put a smile on someone else's face. I'm proud to say that I started off Freshman year doing it all by myself, and it's grown to be a well-known organization within my community and I now have about 15 other performers who help me out :)
